According to Utah authorities, an avalanche killed a father from California who was skiing in Weber Canyon close to Ogden.
In a press release on Thursday, March 9, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported that Ryan Barr, 46, of San Diego, had perished in the avalanche.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, an organized ski party caused the avalanche that buried Barr and another skier.
Barr had passed away, the center reported, but the two snowboarders had been dug out. According to the center, the other snowboarder was transported by air to a hospital.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on behalf of Barr’s family describing him as a “husband, father, son, and sibling.” The statement read, “He was part of a close-knit family who enjoyed nothing more than to spend family vacations and celebrate holidays and birthdays together.
Ryan was adored by everyone and will be recalled for his outgoing personality, kindness, and capacity to brighten any space. His relatives said, “He lived life to the fullest and was taken from us too soon. Barr had one daughter and worked in commercial real estate.
When a layer of snow collapses and begins to slide down the hill, skiers, snowmobilers, and hikers can trigger an avalanche. Avalanches can occur at any time if the conditions are perfect, but they are most frequent in the United States from December to April, according to National Geographic. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reports that as of Monday, March 13, at least 16 Americans have perished in avalanches this season.
