Last night, (Friday, April 21) the Gorillaz performed their second set for weekend two of the much-loved festival. Many of us couldn’t make it, no matter how much we wanted to. Instead, we’ll just have to pretend and relive the night using the Gorillaz Coachella setlist from both weekends and maybe some dodgy glow sticks.
Coachella is one of those things that lots of us say ‘one day!’ too, but know that we’ll never really be able to afford it. It’s become of the most famous festivals around the world, often filled with celebs, amazing headliners, and…interesting outfits.
Taking center stage last night for the second time were the Gorillaz, who seriously impressed not only with their set but the guests they brought out too. The Gorillaz members explored
A pretty unusual band, the Gorillaz members have baffled many who have discovered the group. Not what you’d expect to see, they are actually virtual. Of course, there are real, human, performers behind them, but they’ve always been fronted by fictional cartoon characters.
Seen through music videos, graphics at concerts and even interviews, the four characters are more famous than those behind the music.
They are: 2-D (vocals and keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodles (guitar, keyboard, vocals), and Russell Hobbs (drums).
The band was created by Blue frontman Damon Albarn in 1998, who is the musical contributor for the group. He worked with comic book artist Jamie Hewlett to bring the characters to life and to be the image of the Gorillaz.
Though they have collaborated with a huge range of artists (as proven by their Coachella set list), Albran has only ever been the permanent contributor to the group.

A highlight for the festival, fans and more of the Gorillaz walked away from the set amazed at what they had just seen.

That alone would have been impressive enough, but the guests that the Gorillaz brought out really brought it to another level. In fact, there weren’t many people that didn’t give the band a helping hand.
For weekend two, the crowd were treated to Bad Bunny accompanying them on Tormenta for weekd two, something they features on in the studio recording. Little Simz then came out for Garage Palance and then Moonchild Sanelly for With Love to an Ex.
The Gorillaz also has Beck for The Valley of Pagans, Thundercat for Cracker Island, Bootie Brown for New Gold and Dirty Harry. That not being all, there was also De La Soul for Feel Good Inc and Del the Funky Homosapien for Clint Eastwood and Rock the House. There was also Slowthai on Momentary Bliss and Peven Everett for Strobelight. Jamie Principle also helped them out on Hollywood. Mos Def for Sweepstakes also performed.
When we say that had epic guests, we seriously mean it.
Fans still have Blink 192 to look forward to as they headline this Sunday, replacing Frank Ocean who had to drop out. Though rumors circulate about One Direction at Coachella, these definitely haven’t been confirmed.
